Access to Medicare online accounts

This page provides you with the Terms of use for Medicare online accounts.

If you agree to accept the Terms of use by clicking on the "I AGREE" button, you will have access to Medicare online accounts. If you click the "I don't agree" button, you will not be granted access to Medicare online accounts.

You may print the Terms of use at any time by clicking on the "Print" button.

For your privacy and security, you will be "timed out" if you do not click on a button or link at least once every ten minutes. You will need to sign in to gain access to Medicare online accounts.

Terms of use

Medicare online accounts (MOA) is a digital service run by the Department of Human Services (DHS), on behalf of the Australian Government.

In these terms of use, we refer to DHS as 'we', 'our' or 'us'.

1. Agreeing to these terms of use

By having a Medicare online account, you agree to these terms of use.

2. Changes to Medicare online accounts

We may make changes to MOA, or your individual Medicare online account, at any time, with or without notifying you.

The changes may result in updates to these terms of use. The updated terms of use will then apply to your use of MOA.

3. Privacy and your personal information

You agree to our collection, use and disclosure of your personal information as set out in our privacy policy.

4. Providing correct information

You must provide us with true and correct information. If you provide false or misleading information to us, you may face prosecution and civil or criminal penalties.

5. Keeping your personal details up to date

You are responsible for making sure your bank, contact and personal details are correct and up to date.

6. Removing your access

We may lock, suspend or terminate access to your Medicare online account, or parts of it, if:

  • you do not comply with these terms of use;
  • we believe your Medicare online account was used in an unauthorised transaction; or
  • you are no longer eligible for a Medicare online account.

7. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for keeping the details of your Medicare online account secure. Do not share these details with anyone else.

You must not allow someone else to use your Medicare online account.

We will assume that all transactions coming from your Medicare online account were made by you.

You are responsible for any damage caused by any virus, malware, or other similar malicious code, to your:

  • computer;
  • device;
  • systems; or
  • software.

You are responsible for reading all information relating to MOA that is available to you.

8. What we are not responsible for

We are not liable or responsible for any legal claim, Loss, or liability you incur due to:

  • your access, or failure to access, MOA or your individual Medicare online account;
  • you conducting transactions using MOA or your individual Medicare online account;
  • your failure to provide true and correct information in accordance with these terms of use (including bank, contact and personal details);
  • your failure to update your bank, contact and personal details;
  • other people accessing your Medicare online account; or
  • your failure to comply with these terms of use.


We do not guarantee the availability of MOA or your individual Medicare online account. Access to MOA depends on:

  • telecommunications;
  • internet service providers; and
  • other external factors.

In these terms of use:

"Loss" means any loss, damage, cost or expense (to any person or property), including loss of profits or revenue, loss or denial of opportunity, loss of use, loss of data, and any indirect, remote, abnormal or unforeseeable loss.

9. Applicable law

The laws of the Australian Capital Territory apply to these terms of use.

Privacy and your personal information

Medicare, Centrelink and Child Support are services within the Australian Government Department of Human Services.

Your personal information is protected by law, including the Privacy Act 1988. Your information is collected for Social Security, Family Assistance, Medicare and Child Support purposes. This information may be required by the powers provided within each services' legislation or voluntarily given by you when you apply for services or payments. Your information will be used for the assessment and administration of payments and services. Your information may also be used within the department, where you have provided consent or it is required or authorised by law. The department may disclose your information to Commonwealth departments, other persons, bodies or agencies ONLY where you have provided consent or it is required or authorised by law.
