Access to Medicare online accounts

This page provides you with the Conditions of Access and Use for Medicare online accounts.

At registration, if you choose to accept the Conditions of Access and Use by clicking on the "I agree" button, you will continue with your registration for Medicare online accounts. If you click the "I don't agree" button, you will be exited from registering for Medicare online accounts.

On subsequent visits if you choose to accept the Conditions of Access and Use by clicking on the "I have read and agree to the terms and conditions" check box, you will continue with your access to Medicare online accounts. If you do not click the "I have read and agree to the terms and conditions" check box, you will not be able to gain access to Medicare online accounts.

You may print the Conditions of Access and Use at any time by clicking on the "Print" button.

For your privacy and security reasons, you will be "timed out" if you do not click on a button or link at least once every ten minutes. You will need to log in to gain access to Medicare online accounts.

Using Medicare online accounts is voluntary. You can access or provide information to Medicare over the phone or in person at any time, even if you have accessed and used Medicare online accounts.

Medicare online accounts conditions of access and use

I agree that the following Conditions of Access and Use apply to my access and use of all Medicare online accounts.

I agree

  1. to provide true and correct information to the Department of Human Services (the department) and I declare that all information I provide through Medicare online accounts is true and correct.
  2. that my use of Medicare online accounts does not change any of my obligations to provide true and correct information to the department.
  3. not to provide false and misleading information and I agree that doing so may result in prosecution and civil or criminal penalties.
  4. that the department is not liable for the accuracy of any information provided by me where I do not provide information that is true and correct in all respects.
  5. that if I am registered for a digital health record and I update my address in the Medicare online accounts record, this information will be updated in both my Medicare online accounts record and my digital health record.
  6. that the department is not responsible for any failure in relation to any payments or communications to me using Medicare online accounts, where I do not provide correct bank account details, email address or mailing address.
  7. that if I provide false and misleading information through Medicare online accounts that results in an overpayment to me, it will be treated in the same way as providing incorrect information on a form or in person.
  8. to keep my passwords and my secret questions and answers confidential and:
    1. not permit any other person to use my password, and
    2. to change my password regularly and/or when prompted.
  9. that the department can assume that any transaction using my Medicare online account details is undertaken by me.
  10. my access to Medicare online accounts depends on telecommunications and Internet service providers and other external factors and that the department does not guarantee the availability of Medicare online accounts during the specified operating hours.
  11. that I am responsible for any damage to my computer, systems or software caused by any virus, irrespective of the origin of the virus.
  12. to accept these Conditions of Access and Use every time I access and/or use Medicare online accounts, including acceptance of any changes to the Conditions of Access and Use.
  13. I am responsible for accessing and reading notices and information provided by the department on the department's website and that the department may assume I have accessed and read any such notices.
  14. that the department may cancel my access to Medicare online accounts where:
    1. the department believes my access has been used to perform an unauthorised transaction, or
    2. I am no longer eligible to access Medicare online accounts.
  15. that the department may make changes to Medicare online accounts at any time, with or without notice to me.
  16. that the department may notify me of changes to Medicare online accounts through information and notices available to me when I access Medicare online accounts.
  17. that, to the extent permitted by law, the department is not liable to me for any claim, loss, liability or expense incurred by me in my access and use of Medicare online accounts.

Jurisdiction

  1. These Conditions of Access and Use are governed by the laws of the Australian Capital Territory. Both parties submit to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Australian Capital Territory.

Privacy and your personal information

Medicare, Centrelink, Child Support and CRS Australia are services within the Australian Government Department of Human Services.

Your personal information is protected by law, including the Privacy Act 1988. Your information is collected for Social Security, Family Assistance, Medicare, Child Support and CRS purposes. This information may be required by the powers provided within each services' legislation or voluntarily given by you when you apply for services or payments. Your information will be used for the assessment and administration of payments and services. Your information may also be used within the department, where you have provided consent or it is required or authorised by law. The department may disclose your information to Commonwealth departments, other persons, bodies or agencies ONLY where you have provided consent or it is required or authorised by law.
